These new ones are an improvement alright, but I don't know about that much gloss. Doesn't it look weird on wood? Don't you like them without the gloss?

Yeah, I tried them with and without gloss. The gloss really does look better. Some wood can be glossy for sure, think of that "polished and varnished" wood that you often see. Also, as for the legacy version, the previous photos icon (very similar to the new one) is actually one of my favorite icons for legacy. I've posted it below in case you didn't see it.

About the gloss, I just wanted to make sure you were really aiming for that varnished wood look. I kind of have a thing with gloss on wood and may be mislead by this obsession of mine. The more I look at it, the better it looks. ;)

Nah, Compass and YouTube use totally different borders, if I remember correctly. It actually has more in common with one of the Photos variants. What I'll do (since I'm not entirely sure what you want fixed, I personally find it fairly smooth--wood should, by nature, be grainy and lined) is upload the PSD tomorrow, you can edit it to your desire.
Haha, funny story… the phone works perfectly. The manager told me it wouldn't turn on, so I never thought to try turning it on myself (didn't want to fry anything internally, tried the rice trick), but then a day or so after it happened, it vibrated, haha. I think she just didn't know how to turn it on :P
