So I have a MacBook Pro 13" intel core 2 duo, 2.53Ghz. I'm thinking of getting an LED monitor, around 23" in the $200-350 price range. Any suggestions to specific models are more than welcome, but I'd like any help on answering the following questions:

-What is the max resolution that my Macbook model can output?
-Would my model work well with a monitor? As in, would it be very cpu-consuming, causing my computer to run at max power, loud fan and what not?

Any other input and advice on the subject is more than welcome, cheers!

    To answer your questions:

    • As far as I know it can push 2560-by-1440. I know for a fact that it can do 1920-by-1080, seeing as that's what I'm doing right now with inferior hardware (2.4 Ghz).
    • It won't cause your model to go crazy slow, but you'll probably experience slightly slower performance, this is to be expected. It also depends on what tasks you're doing. Especially Lion's handling of multiple monitors can be a pain.

    Thanks for your response Gabs.

    is 2560 x 1440 considered HD?

Mainly, I just want extra screen estate, being able to use word and have pdf files open, showing at the same time, that type of thing, so I don't think that would get too laggy. But what about playing an HD movie? Or playing a game that is fairly graphically demanding, like Starcraft 2? Are there some sorts of estimates in terms of fps that anyone could muster up?

    Thanks in advance!

2560x1440 is a higher resolution than HD. So any 1080p movie that you watch will actually be sized up to fit the monitor.
